18,000 Hippie Generations Attacked Treasure Island Music Festival 2015 There are two things that dominated when 18,000 Californian youngsters gathered at the Treasure Island Music Festival 2015: magic pot and beer. The music devotees were rocking their bodies, nodding their heads, waving their hands and tingling with excitement. Last weekend was a visual feast; it was the hippie era in a modern light and a celebration of the new millennial flower power generation. The San Francisco’s Bay 9th annual two-day festival carried a line up stacked full of electronica, hip-hop rap and indie rock names. FKA Twigs, Gorgon City, Chvrches, Dead MAU5, and The National were some of the headliners who showcased electrifying performances. But the performers aren’t necessarily the point. The goal is simply to dance and get lost in the rhythm. Beautiful Golden Gate and Bay Bridge backdrops were the other highlights for ticketholders. As the sunset washed out the San Francisco skyline, Insta-addicts turned their hovering phone on the cityscape behind the 60-foot Century Ferris Wheel. The festival landed smoothly with 300 crews working on Silent Disco area, rocking boats, comedy club, DIY camp, holistic hula-hooping, fashion booths and delicious food stalls. Beyond the upbeat music and the idyllic sunset view, there were crochet tops, flower head pieces, paisley pattern pants and fringed dresses galore filling the Treasure Island field. Many were dressed too early for Halloween, more dressed like they were attending the 1969 Woodstock. Beards came back and bras got burned. The overwhelming pool of reborn baby boomers dressed as modern day hippies, embodied today’s fashion movement: feeling free to be whoever you are sexually, spiritually, emotionally in your daring wardrobe and lifestyle. It’s a time of rock and roll, weed and freedom of expression. So fellow proto-hippies, don’t miss the future Treasure Island Music Festival, wear your flower crowns and get cracking next year! (MT)
